I can’t praise the CMS and Careers Fast Track reports enough. They are fast becoming the centre point of both my one-on-one counselling and classroom Career Development sessions.
All the reports directly address the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authorities (ACARA) Work Studies Years 9 -10 Scope and Sequence Career and Life Design Strand. The CFT Personal Learning and Career Pathway Plan allows the students to recognise the importance of self-awareness in career and life design. From analysing the reports and with my help, the student then applies the knowledge they have gained of themselves to make course selections, and subsequently, career pathway decisions.
At the College we are working hard to have students in Year 8, 9 and 10 recognise their learning styles and make adjustments to their learning strategies accordingly. The Learning Style reports are perfect discussion tools for this. The Learnability report enables a non-judgemental, calm and productive discussion to be had with students about their perceptions of themselves as learners, which subsequently motivates them to own their weaknesses and to, with my help, come up with strategies to address these well before entering Year 11.
The CMS and all its tools are invaluable to best career development practise.

Many students in years 10-12 have no idea of their career options. Having the Career Management System allows them to make individual & personal choices in careers that most suit their personalities & abilities. On completing the questionnaires & in turn receiving the results, many students have a greater awareness of why they are studying & most importantly where it has the potential to lead them.
Every student that has ever completed the Career Fast Track questionnaires has come back with a greater confidence in completing their schooling. Parents love the overall report - very comprehensive. I use the system with students whose English language is good enough to cope with the Learning and Career Pathway and Learning style quizzes. The vast majority are delighted with the outcome of the process, either because it reinforces their chosen pathway, or because it allows them to discover more about themselves and presents more suitable/alternative pathway options to explore.
